Spelling worksheet with ten spelling words, each printed on its own handwriting line to copy beneath

One list. Four kinds of practice.

A spelling worksheet generator takes a list of words and prints practice pages from it. DittoSheets prints each word to copy, each word to trace, each word reduced to its first letter and a blank so the student recalls the spelling, and finally a blank line sized to each word for the test. The list, font and lines stay the same all week, so by Friday the student is spelling from memory.

The same ten words, Monday to Friday

Ten third-grade words in Teaching Print, printed four ways.

1. Copywork
Spelling copywork worksheet: because, friend, through, enough, beautiful, laugh, weather, favorite, tomorrow, believe on handwriting lines

Each word on its own line with a blank line under it. Copy the word, look, copy again.

2. Tracing Words LITE

The list in gray tracing letters for younger spellers, or for a word that keeps coming out wrong.

3. First Letter Hints
Spelling worksheet with first letter hints: b, f, t, e, b, l, w, f, t, b each followed by a blank sized to the word

Only the first letter and a blank the length of the word. The student supplies the spelling from memory.

4. Memory Lines
Spelling test worksheet with ten blank lines, each sized to one spelling word

Ten blanks, each the length of its word. Read the words aloud and this is the test.

A spelling week that runs itself

Print the set on Sunday. Each day is a sheet, and each sheet asks a little more of the student than the one before.

  • Monday: Copywork. Read the word, copy it once. Talk about the tricky part.
  • Tuesday: Copywork again, or Tracing Words for the words that were wrong.
  • Wednesday: First Letter Hints. The first letter is there, the rest is recall.
  • Thursday: Memory Lines as a practice test. Anything missed goes back to copywork.
  • Friday: Memory Lines as the test. Check it against the copywork sheet.

The student sees the same ten words all week, and each blank on the test is the same length as the blank they practiced on.

Built for the way spelling is actually taught

Any list, any length

Five kindergarten words or twenty-five vocabulary terms. One word per line, and every sheet type follows.

Print or cursive

Teaching Print, Teaching Print Arrow, Teaching Cursive and Learning Curve cursive. The same list in both.

Sized to the grade

Half-inch lines for first grade, quarter-inch for sixth, set with one slider.

Blanks sized to the word

First-letter hints and memory lines are the exact length of each word. The blank itself is a clue about the spelling, and it stops guessing.

Vocabulary, Latin, Spanish

Vocabulary words, Latin declensions, Spanish verbs and science terms work the same way as a spelling list.

Every student, their settings PLUS

On Plus, each student keeps their own font, size and line style, so the same list prints right for each child.

Spelling in a sentence

Once the list is learned, check it in context. Write a sentence or two that uses the week's words, then blank out exactly those words with Manual Redacting. The student fills each blank from the sentence around it.

The sentence prints in the same font and on the same lines as the word list. Every Other Word and Randomized Redacting are there too, for a quicker review.
